Big Jack’s Trains no longer works on American Flyer or Marx trains of any era for the time being. Sourcing parts for these creates expenses far beyond the value of the unit. We also no longer work on anything made after 1959. We no longer work with tenders of any era due to extreme parts shortages.
Big Jack’s Trains currently does not restore diesels, plastic steamers, or anything lithographed.
Prices include any sales tax and return shipping via USPS. Replacement parts are cost plus 25%. We will never charge you for parts until you have authorized us to do so. Whenever possible we use NOS or Salvaged parts.
Average restoration turnaround time is three weeks to allow for proper paint curing. Don’t worry, we send you regular e-mail updates about your locomotive while it is in our possession. Motor and boiler shell turnaround time is 1 Week.
Parts for pre-war locomotives, particularly wheels, can be scarce and even reproductions are expensive. Please keep this in mind as this van extend turnaround time.
Due to different operating conditions, all sales are final. We do not offer a warranty anymore as damage due to improper operation is beyond our control.
The cost of a full restoration of a complete (or nearly complete) locomotive includes the following services:
- Inspection and Testing
- Full Disassembly and Cleaning
- Replacement of all wiring, brushes and springs with modern reproductions
- E-unit cleaning and re-build
- If needed, nickel plating of appropriate parts
- Replacement of the the contact board and spring
- Replacement of slider shoes or rollers (if equipped)
- Smoke unit cleaning and repair
- Replacement of headlamp lens, rhinestones, and a modern bulb
- Full chemical strip and repaint of the boiler shell, including minor bodywork
- Repair or replacement of damaged marker lights
- Wheel and steam chest blackening
- Reassembly and testing, including a 30 minute run-in time in each direction under load
- Return shipping and taxes
- Hardcopy of itemized work order and instruction sheet
